I recently photographed a Bat Mitzvah ceremony for the first time. I had not previously been permitted to attend or photograph the ceremony so I didn’t really know very much about this Jewish rite of passage to adulthood. This young lady attends a reformist Jewish temple, so I was allowed not only to attend her Bat Mitzvah, but to document it for her to remember. It was a beautiful ceremony, and I was so impressed with her poise and elegance in front of a large group of her family and friends. She basically rocked the whole thing!! The part that was most impressive to me, was at the end when it was explained that she was reading/chanting from ancient language with no vowels, punctuation or musical score. That’s so impressive for a young lady of just 14 years old. Here are just a few of the many photos that I captured at her Bat Mitzvah!!
