To be honest, we don’t go on site visits often. As most of my clients and friends know, I second shoot with another wedding photographer friend practically every weekend that I don’t have my own wedding booked, so I have already photographed at most of the popular wedding venues around the greater Richmond Area. I don’t make a big deal about it, but I pretty much have been everywhere… When a new venue pops up, it always peaks my curiosity, so we when we met the kind folks at Burlington Plantation this past winter and they invited us out to see it in person, we couldn’t resist.
Equipped with only one camera and one lens (which I NEVER do…), Melissa and I toured the grounds recently. I must say I was totally impressed! They thought of every detail… the bridal cottage is equipped with hooks for hanging dresses in all the right places, plenty of room for all the bridesmaid to sleep or lounge, plenty of sinks and mirrors, a beautiful bridal dressing room, a fully functional kitchen, and even laundry if you need it. The grooms suite which also has a full kitchen, and entertainment amenities for the men to bide their time on the big day is tucked just far enough away that there is no real chance of the bride and groom seeing each other on accident (except one window where the bridal cottage can be seen from a distance.) The venue was designed to tie in modern conveniences and the historical structures of the property that create a unique beauty and charm. We particularly loved the “Ice House” and were impressed with the beautiful options available to a ceremony of most any size. We loved the clean and charming look of interior of the barn and couldn’t get over how many features they have available for their couples to utilize to make their reception experience enjoyable to all. If you are at all interested in having your wedding in the Charles City area, you definitely need to check out this space as an option.
These photos are in NO WAY a complete picture of what it is like to experience the venue… they were just some of my favorite details from our visit!! If you want to see what they are all about, you should head over to their website and check it out!!
Burlington Plantation
This auxiliary sleeping space is in the original historical part of the house and is decorated in keeping with the simplicity of the period. Isn’t it cute??
The kitchen in the main house just feels like home!
I love this view of one of the ceremony sites from the house. It will make a great perch for a couple of ceremony images!
Here is that same ceremony site close up!
This is the bridal cottage from the outside… isn’t it cute??
All of these beds are trundle beds which allow for lots of versatility in this great upstairs area in the bridal cottage.
This fully stocked kitchen is more than your bridal party will ever need… but totally perfect in every way!
The getting ready room has so many mirrors and seats for everyone!
One of the neatest buildings on the property is the “Ice House”. In addition to making a great bar space, those windows provide a temperature controlled viewpoint for those guests that might not be able to handle sitting in the open field for a mid-day summer ceremony.
This courtyard area can accommodate smaller more intimate ceremonies… I can’t wait to see it in bloom!
The interior of the barn is stunning with the dark wood and light accents. I LOVE the chandeliers!!
The barn also houses the grooms quarters… I mentioned above it has a protected view of the bridal cottage… He can see where she is, but he won’t accidentally see her before that special moment on the wedding day!!
I love that the groom’s suite has a full kitchen as well. They’ve thought of everything!
A really neat option on the grounds for your reception is to offer late night snacks from this food truck. Your guests will love having tasty treat under the bistro lights!
